FIRE AT BARTON PREMISES TODAY 8 AUGUST 2025
Dear members, Affiliates and general public,
Today we have had a devastating blow to the successful growth of the Canberra Services Club as a community club for those who serve our community and country. The club was consumed by fire, but the most important thing was that no staff, members or guests were injured. Unfortunately some brave emergency service personnel suffered minor injury whilst trying to extinguish the fire. We trust that those officers will have full recovery and of course thank them for their brave commitment to their Service.
The Canberra Services Club is of course the hub for all those who provide a service to our community and country. We have risen out of the ashes before and we will do it again. What we have learnt particularly over the last two years, is that there are many charity and not for profit entities that provide services to our community beyond the ADF, Police, Emergency Services, Disaster Relief Australia, and many more. The club has become a collective home for those who care about others.
We will rebuild, we will survive, we will borrow the strength from those who rallied around to create the Canberra Services Club in 1945. We will draw on the community unity that created the Canberra Services Club in 1918 and as importantly we will draw strength from those many Affiliates, members and friends that have been supporting us at the club in Barton.
We will survive!
